Shropshire is a beautiful county, and is the largest landlocked county in England! Being surrounded by nature makes us notice when things are going well – and when we see our biodiversity levels changing.
We’re fortunate in Newport many teams who work on keeping our town green: We have a local branch of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust who hold regular talks, the wonderful Newport in Bloom who help keep our town beautiful and the Newport Community Litter pickers who keep it tidy along the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust who help look after and promote the Canal and reconnect this valuable transport network. The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) also have a Shropshire branch which holds interesting talks and activities over the year.
At a National level we support 2 major events: the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, Plantlifes No Mow May
- Bat and bird boxesWe were really excited to be given the opportunity by Shropshire Wildlife Trust to put up a selection of Bat and Bird boxes around the local community. Councillor Tim Nelson kindly helped liase with the council to get these installed, including at the cemetary and Wrekin avenue play area.
